Hi Everyone, We are new to this board, I'll just put a little intro below . Oh and I am terrible at navigating my way around, I hope this is posted in the right spot. We have just finished our processing in the Northern Metro region, we were approved at the board hearing in December and our file is about to go on the central Victorian database (this week I am told). The process took 2 years from the first phone call till now (waited 11 months for a social worker). We applied for permanent care initially and were declined given our sons needs, we have now been approved for the infant adoption program. We would like to connect to others waiting, and hear others stories who have been allocated. Particular families that have experienced access visits as this is very new to us and an unknown. We have a 5 yr old son adopted from Thailand and our local approval is for a child of a mixed background. I think there is a DHS term for this but I have forgotten it. Something like CALD child? We are part of an international adoption playgroup in the north area ...(we meet at CERES a lot ) and would love to connect to a local adoption playgroup to get to know others going through this process/program Happy New year Sam, Julian and Chot

Welcome to the board!
We have a Australian born Korean daughter who we adopted through the LA program. She'll be 3 in May. Yes they call it CALD, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse. Although I can't remember with us them referring to that term very often. Years ago when there were higher numbers of babies there was a separate local program for CALD.

Congratulations and welcome! We have a locally adopted child placed through your region six years ago. Time flies! If you have anything specific you would like to know, feel free to PM me.

Welcome Sam, our mutual friend B told me that you would be joining this group. From what I hear from my social workers the likleyhood of getting a CALD child is increasing as in many cases students have "unwanted" babies and then return home. There are a couple of local playgroups on the PPSS website www.ppss.org.au/adoption/support. I am personally in the Western playgroup, but as you can see there is also a Northern playgroup.

Hi Sam and welcome! I've recently been approved for permanent care. As a single applicant, this is the only option for me. I was recommended in my initial approval documentation for a CALD child, although there is an addendum that doesn't reference that. Should double check!
Anyway, good luck with your wait.

Hi Sam, congrats and welcome. We were blessed with a little one last Jan and life has just become so busy. We are in the process of doing all the paperwork to make the adoption legal, but that is another story in itself. Wishing you and your family all the best x
