hello everyone! On the 18th of August, after nearly 18months of life stories, interviews and lots of soul searching, my DH and I were approved to be in the pool for local infant adoption! It was such an awesome day - preparing for the final panel interview was very very stressful and I dont think we got a wink of sleep the night before, but it was fine and I received the call from our SW that we were approved before I even made it back home!! I realise the waiting (and probably the hardest part of the journey) is now ahead of us but DH and I are just so thrilled to be here finally! Id love to hear from others who are also waiting with us and how you've "passed the time" and kept sane hehe I would also love to hear from those who have been successful in bringing home a baby as to how long your wait was and how you coped throughout. I do sometimes feel very lonely amongst my group of friends - most of which have babies/toddlers so I am so very happy to have found this forum of sharing adoption journeys. :-)
Love to you all and I look forward to your thoughts and comments xxx

Hello Waiting and Lil Chookie! This forum is brilliant - I found it thanks to an angel from BubHub who pointed me in the right direction - everything online is so American focused, forums and blogs included. I have been spending lots of time on here, reading up on everyone's journeys - some sad some wonderful (as yours is LilChookie, CONGRATS!!) - what a dream come true - are you still walking on air?! Waiting - this indeed is the hardest part - how long have you been waiting? Lil Chookie - how are things for you? Im curious about how access is for you and your DH and your bubba (if applicable) - please share only what you feel comfortable to.. many hugs xxx

Gosia76, I have been waiting for ages. It will be 2 years next month. Honestly, the waiting sucks. Take care, and I am sure the waiting will not be as long for you.

Congrats gosia76 and to your DH, My DH and I are also approved for LA and PC in NSW. We had our official approval in July. I thinking the waiting is different now because I have so much extra time, With no more interviews to do, no more chasing up appointments etc etc. I tend to be ok most of the time with not thinking about the waiting. It's always at lunchtime (AKA RIGHT NOW!) that I think about it. I think because my SW always contacted me at work and she has my work email ;D and at home, I don't know, I'm pretty much at peace there. Weird right?! Speaking of work must get back to it. Welcome to the forum, everyone is sooo nice here and they are mostly in Vic I think. Great to 'meet' you

thanks for writing Manni - lovely to meet you too! I hope the wait isnt long for either of us :-) Look forward to chatting on here with you down the track :-) I try not to think about "the call" TOOOO much either - especially because its all so fresh for us and we've only just been approved - but there are certain times during the day (like you) that my mind wanders to the "what ifs and whens"... Im actually also curious - have you purchased anything for potential bub as yet? I am sooo hesitant to and am definately erring on not "jinxing" ourselves and getting carried away - but I must admit there are times that a tiny tiny part of me wants to begin to "nest"....what about you? x

No definitely not! I have looked around for what I might like, but I have never purchased anything. I have set up a room that would be a baby's room if one came, but it can be used as anyone's room at the moment. It has a bookshelf with kid's books and a mobile up. No major painting, no murals, no baby furniture no nothing. But then, I am wondering about the Kevin Costner movie as we speak..... Waiting.

When we first got our approval I cleaned the spare room out and DH set up a cot a friend had given me. After a couple of months it just felt strange having something set up for something that was a 'maybe', so the cot went away and the room was turned back into a study. I shopped like a maniac for 3 days before we began transition after 'the call', it was fun!

Yep we have a room set up but we are also foster carers (for about 5 yrs) so we have basic things already, like a cot (this turns into a single bed), books, bottles, dummies, loads of toys. The only thing we did, when we where approved, was upgrade our pram to a nice new jogger pram. The room that is set up for the kids is easily de-kiddified ;D We have lovely big cupboards that hides all the kids stuff, and we just convert the cot to a single bed and ta-da its a spare room! Other than that we haven't done anything. I too hope our wait isn't too long. But, good things come to those who wait (or so they say!!) Maybe write a list of things you would need and look at the room you want the bub to be in and organise how it will eventually look. Maybe buy one item as a good luck charm rather than a jinx!!
