Hi All..
DH and I have our Education classes for LA coming up in just under 2 weeks and I was just wondering
- What types of things did you do or talk about in the classes? - How many other couples were there?
Cheers,
Louise

Hey Louise, Happy Easter to you and your family. I found that Ed classes were quite interested in making sure you were aware of the issues that can occur when you adopt a child. I felt after the classes that I had a better understanding of the feelings of all parties - ie, the child, the adoptive parents and the relinquishing parent. I felt that this was the major theme in the classes. It was also to meet other people. There were about 12 couples I think in the class. It was quite small. I think you will find them interesting. They gave us a big folder and asked us to do some home work.

Hi Louise,
We did LTFC/PC & ICA edu sessions, both had about 15 other couples, some singles, some gay couples etc.
We got given a handbook with scenarios and we had to split up into groups, answering the questions to the scenarios etc.
We also watched DVDs, the ICA was about a girl going back to find her birth family and the pc was about life story work.
ICA had adoptees and adopters come and speak.
Foster Care/PC had carers of short term and long term/pc come and speak about their experiences.
Both of our trainings had loads on attachment theory/parenting, identity issues etc.

Lou I am not sure if you will have it or not but you might find that you have a parent that relinquished their child speak which might be a little on the confronting side - but because you will most likely have an awareness of this the less confronting it might be over those that aren't expecting it.
It can be a bit like reading some of the posts on the "Origins" board (this is a board for parents/families that relinquished children).

Hi everyone,
the Education classes were good overall. Thanks for all the help.
We had adoptive parents, and adult adoptee and a relinquiching parent all talk although the second 2 were from the closed adoption era.

Yep, Sure did... imone and I met and had a great time. It is so nice to have someone else at the same stage to be on the journey with The whole group (there were 11 couples) were all really nice and friendly which made the experience all the nicer.
