After your social worker interviews your social worker will prepare a long report about you, your family and your preferences for your future child. When the panel approves you an excerpt of this report will go on the Central Register (CRE).
When children become available for adoption or permanent care their social worker is supposed to look through the profiles and look for the best 3 matching families for the background of the child. She would then approach your social worker and if she agrees that you would be suitable for this child then you are being put up for this child.
In adoption then the birthmother gets to choose which family she prefers and then a panel makes the final decision.
In pc there is only the panel who makes the decision who they think is most suitable for the child.
Criteria may vary from case to case depending on the background of the child.
Hope this helps to uderstand the process a bit.

After the birth mother/parents looks at the profiles, they also have the opportunity to ask for more information or specific questions of the prospective adoptive parents. They will ask their social worker who will pass the questions on to the prospective parents' social worker who will ask the prospective parents.

We were told that with PC, if there was a child that they thought we were suitable parents for, then we would be moved through the assessment process faster and that all team members are aware of those currently being assessed. Not sure about the reality of this though.....
