Hi there! I'm bombarding you with questions, hope you don't mind. I read below in JoJo's thread that she was knocked back for being overweight which is just awful. Does anyone know what the criteria is? If indeed there is one? It's my dh who is on the chubby side... Thanks, Sal

I'm in NSW so I'm not sure if it is the same - in NSW you have to have a BMI of 29 or under. I rang DOCS here to find out.

I think in Victoria there is no set in stone criteria, but the weight is the first question on the medical assessment. So I guess it will greatly depend on if the doctor sees the weight as a health risk and puts down something like that on the form. Just my guess

At what stage does the medical assessment take place?

In victoria with ICA there are 2 medicals done. One is at the very start and then one is done around the time just before SW interviews. Also I think we have to redo one with our renewal of approval every 2 years!!!! Our renewal will be in December this year..........my biggest fear is of developing an illness that would see our application removed. Less because of the illness and because our file would be removed.

I think you're right - that it's flexible and up to GP in Vic - I hope it's not like NSW shudie as dh is about 35 bmi...
Chinababe - I so understand your concern. If I were to give advice to people starting this process I'd say to have two GPs - and keep one for adoption and the other for anything else that might arise... hmmm, might do that myself now! What your GP doesn't know they can't divulge...
