This was something that came up with the waiting parents via ICA session that I attended a few weeks ago.
They had a social worker talk a lot about PC and LA. However one thing they talked even more about was foster care and how foster care situations often lead to PC situations. They really seemed to suggest that this was a more likely way to be a PC parent than just direct application. Particularly as they are looking for consistency of care for the child. I got to thinking how there was only about 65 children last year in vic placed into PC, surely if this is the case about consistency of care that quite a few of these would have originally been foster care situations as well. Is there anyone out there exploring this option? Do you think you might be open to it in future? What do you view as being the positives and negatives of this situation?

Hi China
My family fostered a number of children when i was growing up. It was always long term foster care, from 6 months up to forever. As a child in this family, i loved it. It was difficult when the child moved on but for most of the kids they were going to a good place.
My younger sister came to our family as a 5 month old baby as a foster child and is still part of our family as a 23 year old woman. Two years ago, my sister was adopted by us. We always felt she was one of us, but her now its official. Her birth Mum would not give permission for this to be done earlier, but at 18 the person can give their own consent.
Take care,
Kate
