I was wondering if anyone has touched upon this topic and if anyone has had it mentioned in their information sessions, by social workers or in education/training classes. Most of my following questions are in regards to reactive attachment disorder or for those children that might be classified at having been "at risk".
I am particularly interested in learning more about (having someone explain it would be great) Gestalt Therapy. Does anyone know more about this?
Has anyone looked at stuff like animal assisted therapy as well? If so how did the animal do or was it beneficial to the animal as well as the child? When is the right time to start this.........like what sort of behaviour has to be displayed?
What other areas or assistance (therapy) paths might you explore if you are faced with unusual issues like these?
Much of my thinking today on this topic is because of Bec. I am very grateful Bec that you make me explore concepts outside of my own knowledge and that you have challenged my complicity (sorry sp???). China

chinababe, I do know about Gestalt therapy. My therapist is gestalt therapist and some of the theory and techniques that I trained in are based on gestalt. Are you asking in terms of working specifically with children or adults?
As for animal therapy....
I absolutely believe wholeheartedly in this. Especially for severely abused children, for angry teenagers and for adults a like. My own healing journey came about after swimming with dolphins which i have continued with for the last 15 years. I saw abused kids that were self harming change within 3 months. A friend also highly recommends horse therapy.
where the child finds it hard to trust people, they can often experience unconditional love and acceptance from the animal.
