Well we got a call from our sw. She wanted to know if we would be interested in her inquiring about a child that would be going to link before the end of the year. She needed to check with us as the child had some history that we had said was something we would want to discuss if a child came up with that.
Anyway of course we said yes and tried not to get too excited (as if!!)
Then the next day she rings back and says that situation won't be going ahead anytime soon as the mother was going back to court to fight for child. I was gobsmacked that they were talking to us about a child that still hadn't had parental rights terminated. Really made me wonder what on earth they are doing, I know it's good to be prepared but I think that is ridiculous, we shouldn't have been contacted until the child had a link date. Anyway needless to say I was very frustrated.
Thanks for listening to my little rant! g

Dear Glenda, I am really sorry that fell through. It is quite irresponsible of them to call you one day and less than 24 hours take it back. Sounds like they were a little premature in this case. I wonder if the case worker was a little inexperienced. If not just plain incompetent.
Rant away, that is what we are here for. To listen, to listen and to support. Take care, Waiting...

Sorry to hear that Glenda..
I hope the right child is near, but I agree it was a little too much for them to jump the gun. We are here if you need us

Apparently this is happening more and more with the publicity around kids in care in Vic and the need to push through the system quickly. Our SW said that there have been a number of referrals for kids still on protection orders, which means that it is virtually foster care situation and a lot more challenges to kids that are suppose to be going into PC.
So sorry this has happened to you, it may be worthwhile reiterating with your agency that you are only interested in low risk PC. I'd also be asking why they are calling you if the situation is still up in the air.

Hi Glenda,
Please read about my experience under 'Hi All'. Under the current system birth parents are allowed to go to court at any time to try and get children back - even after a PC order has been granted - and I have heard of a PC who has had a child for years who is now a teenager and the birth parent is now going to court to try and get the child back!
I am going to push for better information on issues such as these to be given to applicants to the PC system. We are finally (I think) settled with our 2 children after 2 court cases and months of weekly access - it has felt like wading through treacle at times.
Hopefully things will turn out better next time you get a call from your sw.
Best wishes, pippie
