Hi everyone, My partner and I have just booked into the July info session for adoption and permanent care. We are in the process of relocating to Melbourne from Perth and hope to start a family in the garden state. From reading the postings on the forum, I'm under the impression that some regions move faster than others. Any tips? Win

It is a really hard one to judge. I have been with Centacare and the dhs region and they have their pros and cons.
Centacare processes are more transparent and streamlined, the SW all seem to know you pretty quickly, the are a faster process for interviews but a longer waiting time to be matched. You also need to make sure that you are comfortable with some of their policy decisions - i.e. after the adoption can't go back to work for at least 18 months, they won't tell you if you are being considered for placement etc.
The dhs region is incredibly slow and mired in process and they seem to forget you as soon as your file is in with them and it is you chasing up all the time. Also, the wait to be processed is huge - we are second time around which involves two update interviews and it is unlikely to happen before the end of the year - and we have had our paperwork in since March.
All the regions appear to be the same and it does depend on which SW you get and how many people are in front of you.
Having said all that, you could just be lucky and get a really smooth ride with the agency that services your area.

Well I guess what Goggly said sums it up nicely. As I said in another post to someone with a similar question, it all depends whith waht or whom you are comfortable with and lots of luck is always involved. Welcome to the forum Win, and the best of luck for starting a family in the garden state Flossyinoz

Thanks Flossy. Luck is all of us need, I guess. I have only recently found this forum and am glad I did! It's good to hear other people's stories, especially when it's positive. I assume this whole journey can get quite hard and frustrating so any success story is encouraging.

Win, That's how I feel as well. Most other forums dealing with adoption are either filled with people who already have adopted children, mostly internationally adopted several years ago or are filled only with people who are at the very start of the process. But the in between and the long gruelling process from first questions to a hopefull successful outcome and beyond is what is missing for any kind of adoption or permanent care. There are also millions of forums for assisted conception I guess because there is always something to tell when you do cycle after cyle (been there done it ) but the adoption process consists mostly of waiting which is not exciting at all. Although we are rather a small forum we did have several ladies in the past couple of years who got lucky either with local adoption or local permanent care, so yes this always gives me hope as well - it does happen! So please feel free to post on this forum also with totally unrelated topics eg your move from Perth to Melbourne as we all have a life beyond just wanting to adopt. Cheers Flossyinoz

I have just finished my journey Win. How are you going with it? No doubt, you have probably just finished the applications and have probably become brain dead regarding the life story. That does take a lot out of you. Let me know if I can help. F.
