Good News for NSW-er's.... ;D "Women will no longer have to stop their involvement in fertility programs - or lie about it - before they can apply to adopt children under changes to the Adoption Act tabled in Parliament yesterday." and "The changes also propose to make it easier for foster carers to adopt children who have been in their care for at least two years by allowing them to keep the foster care allowance after the adoption. " and "children over the age of 12 in foster care will be able to consent to their own adoption after two years in care instead of five years under the proposals." taken from www.nswalp.com/blog/535/nsw-to-cut-...-with-adoptionsI'm not sure about other states but with victoria you can do this already it is just not spoken about openly. What you need to do is speak with the individual govt service that deals with it. Normally in discussion with DOCS/DHS you can TTC (yes even using IVF) up until education classes. It's just that they don't like to share this info around. When we went through this part we even had meetings with ICAS about remaining on the egg donor lists for monash and melbivf (I have POF) - we where allowed to be on these listings right up until education classes (and clinics still rang me about a year later anyway to see where we where at). I think all this is doing is formalising some of the informal things that already occur. I would be guessing but assuming the main change is with the carers being able to still access money to assist with raising these children.

Chinababe,
This wasn't the case for me. We went through 2 different agencies (one for PC and one for LA), and both required us to have completed IVF before lodging an application - and we had to have had 6 months clear from our last treatment. To get around this our GP and our specialist would have had to tell an untruth as this information was required on our medicals. It was easier / less risky to wait.
I know Flossy had to wait too...

Maybe it's more of an ICA thing - particularly now as the wait to edcuation classes is up to the 2 year mark.

Yeah, maybe... you're right, you age two years before getting into edu sessions anyhow...

Yeah we put in an expression of interest for ICA back in April and we are about 160 on the list and have only moved up on place since then! We will probably have been on the local list a year or so before we even get to top of ICA list. I was really frustrated because in Tassie you can be on both local and ICA list at the same time. I think the difficulty in Vic is that two very different departments handle it.

We were lucky that Anglicare allowed us to participate in the pc education seminar while we still had one final IVF ahead of us, but DHS was iron and did not allow us to do adoption education until 6 months after the last IVF. But we were not allowed to hand our application in until 6 months after IVF.
So I think DHS is quite hard about it, they even wanted Anglicare to go back on their word which they fortunately didnt, saved us at least 6 months if not more, takes long enough as it is.
Strangely enough we were never even asked once by our social workers if we are still on any egg donor waiting list or if we had given away our 2 remaining embryos. Maybe they asked the clinic, they did have the waiver signed by us. And we gave away our last two embies in the hope someone would have more luck in the process than we did.
Maybe ICA does it differently now as they realise that things just take too long as they are and waiving the 6 months is just a little help on the way.

we've spoken to 3 different teams in NSW. although the rule changed above - stopping IVF is definitely what the SW still want. you are allowed to continue with IVF until formal application. we were told by 'long term foster care team' SW that if we applied through say Barnados etc, they actually require a longer break between ending and starting adoption/pc process.
