My husband and I are attending an information session in November. We would be interested in hearing from anyone who has adopted children from China to find out some more information about the whole process and what we can expect.

Welcome sdhosey, I don't think we have someone on the forum who has been as lucky as to adopt a child from China as yet as waiting periods are very long, but we do have "chinababe" on this board who is a specialist in the ICA process for China if you are located in Victoria. Cheers

If your in victoria or WA I would recommend moving to either NSW or SA! I am serious about this in a way. In victoria ICAS has told others that have gone to the info session it will take 2 years just to get to education classes! What I can't believe is they seem to think this is an IMPROVEMENT........Grrr - they closed their system last year to overhaul it. Um I think they shouldn't have they have made it worse. Sorry that's my minie event. Now back to your thread. I would look very closely at what other country requirements you met and consider them. As the system in China is VERY VERY VERY SLOW, it doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon. I would say by 2020 China will most likely have stopped ICA altogether. It will take about 5 to 6 years to complete our adoption with China and that's not including the time before our paperwork left Australia and our assessment. To answer your question it really depends on what your current family dynamics is and why you are adopting (other than it being a great way to create a family) as some countries have restrictions in this regard. Basically I am asking for more info- like do you have kids already, how old you are...... My other suggestion is to consider living as an Expat and adopting that way. But hey that's not an option for all of us (I wish my DH was more open to this). One of the girls here adopted as an Expat so it's worthwhile talking to her.
