Hi Louise
what i found was that i had a room empty (just in case). The when the phone call came (which was fantastic), hubby and i went shopping and all we bought was the cot, change table with bath, (we were placed with an 8 month old baby boy) car seat and pram, nappies and heaps and heaps of wipes (you can not get enough of wipes). Work gave us our our car seat as a gift, which was fantastic and on top of that, when friends and family found out it was a boy, man the amount of clothes is unbelievable. I dont have to buy clothes for a very long time (but i do go and buy clothes) cant help it. I agree with goggly, most of the things that you buy just because your excited will never get used. But what i will say (HEAPS AND HEAPS OF WIPES)

Doris you make me laugh! I second the motion on wipes.
There are still wipes in the car, wipes in my handbag and wipes in all four corners of the house and occasionally I still find them stuck to a piece of clothing!
The only other thing is if you are going to use a dummy (I know, I know but in my defence she had one before she came to us and was fairly attached so I couldn't take it from her - I wanted her to like me!) use the cheap ones and buy in bulk. I think we would have spent more than a few hundred bucks over the past few years on those damn things and have become desperate enough at 2.30am to try and re-inflate a flat ones!

Hi Goggly Yes i have to agree with you and the damn dummy. The dummy was part of the package and it was stuck to him like glue, he is getting better now he only has it at night to get him alseep and nothing during to day (well that is until he sees it lying somewhere). Yes the wipes are everywhere. My sister in law just had a baby and i bought her two boxes of wipes as a present. (she had everything else) and now she is thanking me big time (st the time she thought it was a joke)...

Yes you do need wipes and don't take the cheap Safeway ones, they are no good, Huggies or Johnsons or Coles for example are good, nice and thick to get the little bottom clean. My son came with the dummy attached too, the foster mum used to put glycerol on it which I stopped. Since then he only needs the dummy at night and I actually found the expensive ones last a lot longer especially when they are teething.

I can't remember how long it takes but I read something years ago about sterilizing dummies and that you should only keep them a certain length of time because the sterilizing damages the plastic (the bit in the mouth) and it can break down.
Sorry can't remember precisely, we did it at a staff meeting (early childhood).
I personally can completely understand why children that have been in foster care and then into LA have dummies - it's a great attachment tool. Plus my mum let me have mine until I was nearly 5 - I know I know but it was the 70's and my mum was having to deal with a lot of emotional stuff (my father died when I was 3) and she was dealing with 4 children and their grief as well.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy anything specific at this stage... who knows who will come, what age, how many will come, when they'll come etc? Once we are matched - we will go buy what we need proper. I agree re attachment China
